Liveblogging AIIM SharePoint Meets ECM Session (1 of 5)
I’m coming to you live from the Donale E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont (Chicago) Ill. I’ll be blogging the AIIM SharePoint Meets ECM session throughout the day (or as long as the battery lasts on my laptop). This subject is clearly a hot topic in the world of ECM given the attendance here today (looks like 100+ attendees and about a dozen vendors).
Currently Peggy Winton, VP at AIIM, is kicking off the session by giving us the history of AIIM and talking about the drivers for this session. In short, Microsoft’s entry into the ECM space means the ECM has hit the mainstream, but this creates as many challenges as it does opportunities. The goal of the session is to goal is to provide set of tools and info to help end users make their own decisions, rather than promote a particular software application.
Sounds good to me. I’m interested to see if the conclusions here are the same as what I’ve been seeing, namely, that MOSS is a very strong collaborative platform but isn’t yet a full-fledged alternative to existing ECM tools. I’m also interested to hear more about specific use cases around MOSS and any experiences organizations have trying to replace traditional ECM tools with MOSS. More to come next post.
